Kelvin-Froude wake patterns of a traveling pressure disturbance

Lord Kelvin predicted how water waves produce a universal wake pattern, but actual ships produce markedly different wakes. We generalized Kelvin’s argument and describe different classes of wake patterns arising from factors such as water piercing or finite size effects.
